CV

Seongji Jang(they/them), born in Seoul, is a stage and costume designer and video designer. After studying in animation at the Korean National University of Arts in Seoul in 2013, they moved to Berlin and completed a bachelor's and master's degree in stage design at the Berlin University of the Arts under Prof. Hartmut Meyer and Prof. Janina Audick.

Seongji Jang designed stage and video works for Marie Schleef, such as for “Once I Lived With A Stranger” and “Kim Jiyoung, born 1982” at Schauspiel Köln and for “the Mushroom Queen” at Deutsches SchauSpielHaus Hamburg.

They also created video works in collaboration with Asarela Orchidia Dewi for “RISKANT. VÖGEL AUFSCHEUCHEN” at Ballhaus Naunynstraße and with Sascha Malina Hoffmann on the set and costume design for “ON/OFF WAVES” at the
Münchner Kammerspiele. The production was invited to the Körber Studio Junge Regie in 2024 and was shortlisted by the jury as one of the productions shown.

In the 24/25 season, Seongji Jang conceived and animated the video work of the installation performance BUTCHPOSITION (UA) and is part of the four-member production team at Staatstheater Darmstadt.

Seongjis artistic practice includes set and costume design, comics and hand-drawn animation, researches related to gender, queerness and memory.

In 2022, Seongji Jang's project “metamorphoses of women” was funded by
NEUSTART KULTUR- Residenzförderung des Fonds Darstellende Künste e.V.
